Banba’s Crown Theatre Company has also been involved in organising performance projects in our local community, in Dublin’s inner city, to help promote community spirit and inclusion. These are free events which include public readings of “A Christmas Carol” in collaboration with professional actors and children from our neighbourhood at Our Lady of Dolour’s Parish Church in Dolphins Barn at Christmas and excerpts from James Joyce’s “Ulysses” and other works for “Bloomsday in the Barn”, an open air event held in Dolphins Barn in June each year. Both events have been running successfully for the past five years. We have been supported in these ventures by Dublin City Council. Over the past four years, the readings of A Christmas Carol, have raised over €12,000 for the Peter McVerry Trust. We hope to develop this concept further in the future.
